March Newsletter 2019
This month has been exciting as we watched God work. We were privileged to see people profess faith in Jesus Christ and begin their journey of faith. We were encouraged to see believers grow in Christ and grow in their faith through discipleship. God continues to strengthen us in our current ministry here in Maryland, but He has also given us a great desire to see these things happen in a country filled with people who have no hope in Christ. Less than one percent of the Wolof people in The Gambia have their faith in Jesus. This month we want to talk about what God may want your role to be in bringing the hope of Jesus Christ to more of the Wolof people in The Gambia.
As with most things, worldwide missions are a team effort and takes many partners in numerous roles to accomplish God’s mission. One of these roles is the financial partner. It takes money to reach the lost around the world. To date, we have been blessed by so many partner families, individuals, and churches that want to be a part of reaching the Wolof people for Christ. They have helped us reach 45% of our monthly support needs for The Gambia ministry. We praise the Lord for what He has already done! However, there is still much that needs to be done before we can get on a plane and start ministering to the Wolof people.

There is an urgent need for us to get to The Gambia by the end of this year. The first reason should be obvious. There are still millions of Wolof people who need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ! Although this is the primary motivation for us to reach The Gambia quickly, there is another reason. At the end of this year, the missionary couple who we will be replacing are retiring. Barney and Adelia have been in The Gambia for over 20 years and are the only ABWE missionaries in the capital city of Banjul where we will eventually be located.
We know that God is in control and His timing will be perfect. However, from a human perspective, it seems that transitioning to a new culture and new roles would be far easier if there were experienced missionaries to help us along the way. There is a small team in the village to help us learn culture and language, but their roles are very different from the ministry in the capital city of Banjul where our ministry will be located.
Therefore, we encourage you to join our team now and be a part of reaching the lost in The Gambia. Churches, families, and individuals all play a role in helping missionaries reach the field. Please pray and ask God what role He wants you to play in missions. If you represent a church, please consider inviting us out to present our ministry this year. If you are an individual, please contact us so we can share more about our ministry and how you can become a partner. If you’re already a partner, think about your friends or family who may want to be a part of reaching the lost in The Gambia. Consider hosting a get together where we could share our ministry with them and ask them to partner with our ministry.
To reach 100%, we need individuals, families, and churches to make monthly financial commitment to our ministry. There are various levels of commitment from $10 to $500 a month. Our immediate goal is to be at 50% by June 1st to attend a class at ABWE that is only offered once per year in July. This equates to about $370 more in monthly commitments. Consider helping us reach this next goal now. You can give by visiting our website at www.reedsforchrist.com and clicking on the GIVE tab. Only reoccurring commitments count towards raising our monthly support percentage towards 100%.
Please feel free to contact us if you would like more information about how you can partner with our ministry. We would be delighted to come to your home or church and share more about reaching the Wolof people in The Gambia. God has a role for you to play in missions even if he has not called you to go. It takes a large team of individuals and churches who commit to both give financially and to pray regularly. What role is God wanting you to play?
Prayer Requests
Pray for new ministry partners to bring us over 50% before this June.
Pray that God will continue to bless our prefield ministry and hasten our departure to The Gambia.
Thank you all for your prayers!
In Christ,
